Circular economy

Soil dumping

The city of Tampere’s soil dumping site is located in the Kolmenkulma area in Western Tampere, where the entire Pirkanmaa region’s surplus soil is dumped year-round.

In 2022, we received more than 200,000 m3 of surplus soil and served an average of 46 operators per month.

More information on the dumping site is available on the City of Tampere’s website (in Finnish).

Snow dumping

Tampereen Infra manages the city’s snow dumping sites. This includes snow reception, site maintenance and supervision. The sites have an active access control system and surveillance cameras, which are used to monitor people in the area.

In the last 10 years, an average of 16,000 truck loads of snow have been dumped at the sites during the winter season.

The snow usually melts by the end of August. The melt waters are directed to clarification basins, the waters of which are constantly monitored through sampling. During a typical winter, approximately 120 m3 of waste is separated from the snow, after which the waste is transferred to a management facility.

More information on the dumping site is available on the City of Tampere’s website (in Finnish).

Circular economy

Together with the city of Tampere, we are developing the operation of separate circular economy areas as well as the reuse of clippings from street and green construction sites.

Tampereen Infra’s work sites are designed to minimize the use of virgin natural resources, mass transfers and storage. In the temporary storage areas of soil, the aim is to meet construction needs, and only unusable soil is transported as waste.

The circular economy is present in our daily operations. With smart use of resources in construction, we can achieve immediate emission reductions.
