Maintenance

Streets
We keep the streets of our hometown in shape all year round.
In winter, we plow the walkways and bicycle paths and prevent slipperiness. We remove the snow from the city’s designated areas, and take care of gritting in winter and grit removal in spring. The maintenance of roads and public areas also falls under our responsibility.
In addition, we are responsible for the maintenance and cleanliness of the market squares, as well as cleaning up garbage from public areas, which include the yards of schools and kindergartens.
We maintain a total of approximately 9,000,000 m2 of asphalt surface! This number includes roadways, sidewalks, combined bicycle and pedestrian paths, open areas, market squares and stairs.
Parks and outdoor sports facilities
Green areas make the city more attractive. They provide a mood boost and enable various activities and ways to pass the time.
We are responsible for the maintenance of playgrounds, skate parks, disc golf courses, outdoor sports facilities, ice skating rinks, playing fields and dog parks, among others. For example, we level and maintain the paths and fields of parks. After the weekends, we do cleaning, collect trash and empty the waste bins.
We plant flowers in the city’s public areas and take care of them. Did you know that we plant over 30,000 flowers every summer? We also mow the lawns, trim the bushes and keep the meadows and perennials looking their best.
At the beaches, our work includes general maintenance, such as cleaning, repair work and construction, but also taking care of safety. This work also extends to fountains and carpet washing sites.

Nature Management
Tampere is a green city whose nature we take care of in many ways.
We grow, plant and care for trees in the city’s public areas: we do mechanical forestry and logging work, and we plan and carry out tree condition surveys and pruning. Supplying the Christmas tree for the Central Square is also one of our annual tasks!
The maintenance of stormwater systems, such as ditches and water tanks, is part of our duties, just like the control of harmful invasive species.
